I realise there a few threads with a similar title but I think mine is a little different.

I am looking for a program that will capture a whole miniDV tape then allow me to pick and choose which pieces of video I wish to keep and burn to DVD.

I'm a novice at camcorder stuff so give me some slack please if this is a stupid question and most progs do what I'm after!

    Thanks in advance.

Look at one of the entry level editors, such as Ulead Video Studio, Adobe Premiere Elements, or Sony Vegas Movie studio+DVD. All of these will capture, let you cut out the bits you don't want, add titles and transitions if you need them, then burn them to DVD for you.

I believe all have downloadable demo versions, so the best option is to try each one out and see what suits you best.

Vegas Movie Studio+DVD (about 80$ US) is a good choice - also some of the ulead products are quite good I understand .... they will capture your whole minidv tape, you can do simple edits, add titles and burn to dvd all within the one app ..

you can add some effects also if you want ... very very simlple to use

  4. *If* you're planning to upgrade to Vista, it comes with Windows Movie Maker (for the miniDV bit) and Windows DVD Maker (for the DVD bit).

Thanks guys, I've no intention of moving to Vista just yet.

I'll give Ulead a go first as I know they do the demo version.

    Cheers.
