  1. I've been reading various threads on lightscribe in this and other forums and I think I've come to the conclusion that I want to give it a shot.

I know that many people think that sharpies make the best labels (which I will continue to use 95% of the time) and that's fine. I'm just looking for that little extra touch for the DVDs that contain precious memories since I only plan to use the lightscribe feature for my home movies (kids growing up, etc).

My other option was a cheap thermal printer but I didn't want to deal with another external peripheral, not to mention I already have two large printers.

    A few questions:

    1) Recommended drives?

    2) Recommended media brands? I understand that gold-colored ones were the only ones available until 2006 (per lightscribe.com). I would prefer anything but gold.

    3) Does anyone have sample photos of their lightscribed media after it was done burning?

    Thanks!

I really like the LG H10L/E10L (external version). It's an excellent burner and does a good job on Lightscribe, as well. It's getting pretty hard to find, though. Some Best Buys may still have them in stock, especially the E10L. I believe there is an LG H42L which is the updated version. (do NOT get the LG H22L which is a questionable burner quality-wise)

The ONLY good quality Lightscribe media out there is Verbatim. They make DVD+R and CD-R Lightscribe media. Seriously, don't waste your time on any other type. It's garbage. Especially if you're talking about using LS on important discs, like home movies. The CDR discs they make come in different colors on a spindle. The DVD+R is still only the goldish/brown color as far as I've seen (As is most Lightscribe at this time)

I don't have any pictures of discs from this drive right now... sorry.
