I've never heard of LightScribe causing any disc problems. Any links? A Google search for ' lightscribe damage ' turns up nothing. It burns a special layer on the top of the disc. The data layer is on the other side, with a layer in between. It might warm up the disc a bit during burning, but shouldn't cause any problems.

If the technology has a disadvantage, it's in that it's relatively slow, limited on colors and the discs cost more.

Create your video 1st...What if you burn the picture/image, then want to create the video and it comes up as a bad burn? All you will have done is wasted time and create a bad disc with an image on the printable/burnable side..

f-zer0 - It makes NO DIFFERENCE whether you burn the lightscribe image first or second. NONE. I own such a burner and I've made discs for years. Usually I burn the lightscribe image first, but I've done it both ways.

If you want to use lightscribe, you should ONLY buy Verbatim discs. Just trust me when I tell you that it's worth the minimal extra cost to have Verbatim. Verbatim makes high quality media and you'll have fewer coasters with them than the other few brands who also make lightscribe discs.

There's a recent update to the lightscribe drivers at http://www.lightscribe.com and it increases the contrast a lot. The discs look a lot better now. Set your burning program to use "best" contrast after doing the update and you'll get the best results.

Do note that lightscribe is only monochromatic (ie. black and gold or black and one other color - multicolor is currently impossible in the format). If you can print to color on discs, it will look better, no doubt. I find lightscribe useful for certain things and I like it, but it's not for everyone. We have a lot of lightscribe haters here, so don't be surprised if you get some strongly negative replies on the subject.

  5. I've used Lightscribe for a few years and haven't had any problems. I've used them for numerous pageants I've filmed and no one has asked for a replacement yet.

This is true even with the Lightscribe CDs. HP, and Philips, the only other Lightscribe CD/DVDs I've tried, just don't have the same image quality. The contast doesn't seem to be as dark. I just can't stand waiting 20 minutes for the freakin' image to burn. Makes me wish I never showed the lightscribed discs to any one. Everyone demands Lightscribe now. It saves me on Epson ink and casio ribbons, but the premium cost for the discs and outrageous image burn time negate this.
