Yes, I'm using it with openSUSE 10.3. There is a nice article that may have some hints where and how to start, usefuly even if you run a different distribution:

    http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Lightscribe

You may have to twiddle a lot to get used with it and to get a nice result, but for some DVDs/CDs that are meant to store important stuff it is worth it I think. i'm still playing with The GIMP to create nice pictures for lightscribing

Lightscribe.com has all the files you need, which is a project of HP btw. There are both RPM and DEB files available. Before HP released the linux files, for a few years I just used the LaCie lightscribe utilities. The downfall is that you have to basically design the label in Gimp, or another editor, then load that image in.

It works well in many ways; but there are a couple things to keep in mind- one being that unless kept in the dark, they can eventually fade. I've heard a 6 month half-life mentioned.

I've been happy with the discs I've burned so far, even with the soft contrast available. The price per disc still seems a bit high tho...

Well, almost anything stored in the light will fade. I don't really understand why so many people find this so difficult to do. I've got Lightscribe discs that will be 2 years old this month and they're still OK, but I don't store them in the light.
