I am a happy owner of a new LG DR1F9H recorder. I don't know how I ever got by with a vcr for so long now. Anyways, I was attempting to convert a video that I had recorded the other day and ran into a little problem. When a video is recorded to a dvdram disc, the files that are created are not typical dvd files. To rip the video to my computer, I use tmpgenc dvd creator which rips the video as a mpeg2 video(2 hrs in length). When I user total video converter(tvc) to convert the file to either xvid or divx, the output video scale is narrower and taller than the standard 4:3 aspect ratio. I adjusted the video settings of tvc but was unsuccessful in getting it right. Also, it takes tvc about 2 hours to encode this, is this right, because that seems just too long compared to what others have stated? Does anyone have any tips as to the video output settings and maybe what a decent time for conversion would be?

What video frame size/resolution are you converting to? I would use a 4:3 size for avi divx/xvid like for example 640x480 (if your source is 4:3 then).

You can also try AutoGK for mpg to avi divx/xvid.

Tvc has 2 settings for the video output, one for the resolution and one for the apect ratio. Originally I left it at the setting for the same as the input file. I then tried changing the resolution to 640x480 and the aspect to 4:3 which did not fix the issue. When I used those same settings and converted to a different avi type(I believe h264), it seemed to be correct. I will try it again this evening and see if it does this again. What is the typical coversion rate/time though, I thought it would work much quicker than it does on my pc with all of the ram that I have installed.
