HD-DVD to avi or mkv(x264)

Hello all,

I have been reading and havent seen anything on this question so I thought I would put it here. I have a backup of one of my HD-DVD's and would like to encode it into a HD format that my MCE will read. Im also trying to get the filesize down to under 10gb by compressing into a mp4 format. Does anyone know how to do this or point me in the right direction?

I know how to convert into avi and all, its just this .EVO file extension that is confusing me.
