I have a question about ripping DTS sound from a DVD.
The DVD has a DTS 24bit 96kHz stream and i want to convert it to mp3.
It seems that directly after capturing, the gain of the created dts-file is too big.
After converting (with numerous different apps, i.e. VobEdit) i play the dts-file with dtsdec.
The quality is excellent at 'silent' parts, but when the music gets louder a noise is present.
To check whats wrong i converted the dts-file to wav with dtsdec.exe (command: dtsdec -o wav > output.wav input.dts)
Then i opened it in a "wave viewer"-tool and there i see the that the wave-tops in loud parts are capped.
This is what is causing the noise.
So the converstion of vob to dts is going wrong, its converting with a gain which is aprox 150% of what is needed.
- Is the 24/96-stream causing this?
- Is there a way to normalize the sound when its being converted from vob to dts?
Thanx in advance!

Try using PGCDemux to rip the DTS from the VOBs. Worked for me...
I'd encourage you to check out a command line app called Tranzcode, which works quite well at dts-wav conversion. Latest version is 0.40? You can convert from dts to mp3 with the Foobar player as well, or you can script the conversion via Avisynth.
Check out the DTS downmixer batch file in this archive file

You'll have to rename your input file to Input.dts for automated processing.
Avisynth 2.57 and .Net 2.0 also required. -
Thanx for the info.
After reading your advice, i tried capturing the dts-stream with PGCDemux but this has the same result.
Playing the dts file with dtsdec shows "capped wave-tops" on louder parts of the music.
Will look at the other tips, because a direct convertion from dts to mp3 is maybe easier.
But its converting from vob to dts were it goes wrong (too big gain).
