    Hi.

I have a ATi Radeon 9600 video card and i have been told that i can capture video with it. But after searching the internet and these forums i cannot find any information on how to do this.

Go look at the specs on your card here in the menu on the left and see if it caps. I think you need an AIW (All-in-Wonder) to do dat...heh heh.

There are at least two different versions of the 9600 card and only one can do captures. It is usually called AIW for ALL-IN-WONDER but sometimes it is called VIVO for Video In Video Out.

So it is possible you have a AIW or VIVO 9600 but it is also possible you have a "regular" 9600 meaning you would not be able to do captures with it.

    I'm not sure about that.

I do think that ATI always uses AIW in North America but I think they use VIVO in Europe etc.

Also I think I've seen North American VIVO if it is an ATI chipset but a board by another manufacturer.

Either way I think the AIW and VIVO cards all work the same. Just a different name for the same thing.

As to whether or not the 9600 line had "capture issues" I honestly don't know.

  6. As far as I know ATI always uses All In Wonder (AIW) for its video capture cards. Nvidia uses VIVO. There may be some confusion because ATI also uses AVIVO for one of its video processing application.

I swear I've seen VIVO for ATI cards but I could be wrong I suppose.

You are right, ATi cards do have VIVO.

According to the manual/instruction booklet that came with the card it does in fact use VIVO. It also answers my question.

Now i just need to get it to record from the camcorder.

What type of camcorder is it?

Is it an analog camcorder or a digital camcorder?

If it is an analog camcorder then you would have to use the ATI VIVO card but if it is a digital camcorder (digital8 or miniDV) then you would want to use a FIREWIRE connection instead.

Just to clarify matters, ATI Radeon cards come in three flavours. The ATI Radeon, which is a standard video card, the ATI Radeon VIVO, which is a video card but wit additional Video In and Video Out ports and the ATI Radeon All-in-Wonder, which has VIVO and an onboard TV tuner. Both of the latter ones can do analogue capture. The software required is the ATI MMC (Multi Media Centre) with matching Catalyst drivers which can be downloaded from the ATI website.
