I've never had problems until today. I've tried various DVD media and keep getting the same error message. I don't know what's going on, so any help would be MUCH appreciated.
Here's the error message:

Gr8DaddyG,
It looks like only part of the burn log was posted. Do you have a full burn log? -
Meanwhile, take a look here for common Nero errors. From the Digital Digest Forum: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45942
And you do seem to missing the 'error' part of the log. -

I see the "Illegal Disc" error but the DVD's used to work and I've tried multiple brands with the same results. Any suggestions?
Thanks. -
A few suggestions that may or may not help...
Upgrade the firmware on your DVD burner. There are no guarantees, but I have had doing this fix some weird problems with Nero.
Burn at a slower speed. Nero sometimes can't burn as fast the media allows and using a setting of "maximum" as the burn speed can cause Nero to have problems.
Remove and reinstall Nero.
Upgrade Nero if a newer release is available.
Please don't use Nero for DVD burning. ImgBurn is a much better alternative. Here's a web page describing why you should use PgcEdit to create ISOs which you can burn with ImgBurn:
http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/pgcedit_guide/burning_with_pgcedit/burning_with...pgcedit_v2.htm
Nero puts the BUPs and IFOs in the same sector so if you ever have a bad sector, your BUP and IFO will be both useless. Kind of defeats the purpose of having BUPs in the first place. -
Gr8DaddyG,
Well, the good news is you're running the most recent manufacturer firmware available for your drive. The drive is running in DMA. The disk has enough capacity to burn the project size. Those are all good things.
What caused the failure was the software sent a "Reserve Track" command to the drive. The drive couldn't do it, and sent back the reason it couldn't comply: atapi error code 053005 which means "Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Format".
The media code for the disk you were using is "CMC MA - G. AM3". That's really not good media, and could be the problem. In the first (partial) log you posted you were using "SONY16 - D1", which according to nomorecoasters.com is first class media. If the missing part of the first log showed the same error, it could still be a media problem if the burner can't handle newer media, or it could be another problem. Avoiding that CMC media at least until your problem is resolved would still be a good idea.
Since your NEC burner is currently set to slave on IDE channel 2 with the LiteOn dvd-rom drive set to master, you could try switching who's master and slave. The burner should be set to master anyway.
Another possibility would be if you have Roxio 5 or less on your system. It is known to cause problems in XP, especially with CDRALW2K.SYS, which is on your system. If you do have Roxio, this page will step you through how to correct the problem.
If you've gotten down to here, you might want to try jman98's suggestion to use ImgBurn. Many people here like it much better than Nero for burning. It's free, so it doesn't cost you anything to try it.
If you still can't get a disk to burn, it might be time to replace your older burner with a new one. -
Great tips guys, thanks a bunch. I think with your advice I'll be able to clear this thing up.
