Okay, so I put in a new LG GSA H44N because the box proclaims it will burn DL media at 10X. So I put the disc into the drive and fire up DVD Decrypter...
It burns the disc at 4X, which is slower than it did with my old drive.![]()
What the hell? Is it the firmware? The program? The discs? Are the manufacturers even paying attention to the fact that people like faster burns because it entails less wear on the burner? What is going on here? Why are media speeds lagging so far behind drive speeds, rather than the opposite as was the case with CD-R?

Is DVDDecrypter set to max writing speed?
It looks like the firmware hasn't been updated yet,I would hope an update will increase write speed. -
Yes, DVDDecrypter was set to maximum speed. I set it to 10X on the first DL burn, and MAX on the second. Both would not go past 4X.
The first thing I did before burning anything, in fact, was to install the only available firmware update. I have had this problem with every LG burner I have used save maybe one, with the damned things refusing to go at either their maximum rated speed or that of the media."It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -

Ive experienced this same problem, the write speeds of both my DVD writer & blank dvd 5 or dvd, sometimes display the incorrect writing speed in DVD Decrypter, I don't know what is it, though my DVD Writer is old now & LG hasn't created any new firmware for a year or so.

If you cannot actually choose your burning speed in DVDDecrypter from the dropdown(4x 6x 8x etc etc)and you only have MAX and MIN.... then it is not completely recognizing the drive.
Try ImgBurn...it might help.
