K-lite causes a lot of problems, especially if you have existing codecs and in general, codec packs are not recommended for those and other problems. But it should not have affected opening a CD. Does it play a burned CD? WinAVI is also not too popular because of uneven performance and many problems. Just do a forum search to confirm that.

But to your main problem. You might go to Device Manager and uninstall the channel the writer is on. That often cures those problems by resetting the drivers. If you don't get anywhere that way, you might do a system restore to right before you installed the programs.

Go to Device Manager and remove the the IDE controller(s), then reboot. That will correct most driver issues as redwudz pointed out.

Aside from that, have you tried more than one blank disc? It could just be a bad disc. Other issues could be the drive has just failed. Have you tried buring the disc in the other burner? It could also be the firmware doesn't support the disc brand/type you are trying to burn. From the burn speed, I expect you are trying to use an older cdrw, if not, then you need to upgrade the firmware of the drive or you have a bad disc. And last, it could be that your version of Alcohol doesn't appear to be registered. Alcohol isn't free, it has a trial period and then you have to purchase it.

Plus, if you're trying to burn a .bin/.cue set, you might also try Imgburn 2. It also has options in the menus to help you find updated firmware, if necessary.
