  1. I've been trying to author a DVD with multiple .avi files. Some of them come out OK and are perfectly watchable, but others end up with no sound. Upon further investigation, when I try to play these soundless files on something like Windows Media Player, I get an "error downloading codec" message. Can anyone offer me advice?

Run the 'problem' AVIs through the latest version of GSpot (2.60 RC1, at the moment), and see what audio codec(s) it lists the videos as using. Chances are it's probably AC3 audio, or maybe an ogg stream.

If it's AC3 sound, you can get the AC3 Filter or maybe just get the ffdshow codec/s (that's got just about all the codecs you'll ever need. It's not really a codec pack like those k-lite and mega codec packs)
