  1. Hi,

I have captured DV tape through Pinnacle Studio 10 into *.AVI file (GSpot says Codec:dvsd NameVC/DV Video) and now I need to run this AVI file through Virtualdub filters and than export from it as the same AVI to be able to transfer it back to the camera.

But there isnīt this codec in Virtualdub compression settings ? Which one should I use ?

    Thanx
    Peter

I use the Panasonic DV Codec with VD or VDM, but there are others available in 'Tools' to the left. Older versions of VirtualDub and VD Mod can only use Type 2 DV, but the newest VD can also use Type 1 DV and I believe you can use it to transfer from your camera to your computer hard drive also. Type 2 is compatible with TMPGEnc, but a few encoders need Type 1.

Transferring from a camera to the computer via FireWire doesn't need much of a program to accomplish, as it's just a data transfer, not capturing, really. I use WinDV, but about any transfer program will work the same as another.

  3. Tnanks for fast replay I went through the codecs in the Tools menu, which one of them has the best quality ? Panasonic, Mainconcept, Conopus or other ? Is it possible to export DV 2 Type AVI standart Video with all of them from Virtualdub ?

I believe all three can encode DV using VD. I've never noticed any difference in quality, but some members feel that Canopus is best, Mainconcept second, and Panasonic third.
