Problem is everytime I put I insert a disc it ejects it. I press the button so it can insert it again and then it works. There are times when it ejects the discs 2 times before keeping it inserted and reading...

I've tried switching firmwares and formatting, still have the same problem. Burns great though and I have had it for a year or so now and have burned 100s of dvds so maybe its seen its best days and should be put to rest.

If this is the case what is the best drive on the market now a days. I am very pleased with the performance the Benq 1640 has offered me so if there is another Benq out there that does well with Lightscribe preferably give some advice... Thanks

Does it give an error when it opens the tray? Does it do it with any disc when reading; commercial, homemade or blank?

If it also does this with more than one burning program, then either it's having a hard time reading the disc or the drive itself has a problem. If it's just with burning, try another brand of disc and a different burning program.

But from what you say, it sounds like there is a problem with the burner. It may be mechanical in that it's not sensing that the tray has fully closed, especially if it immediately ejects, even before the disc spins up.

i believe it immediately ejects. its with any disc I put in. but once its in there it works perfectly fine, never has given me a problem with faulty burns and what not, just spits out the disc when I insert it, immediately without reading I assume.

If its mechanical is it even worth to try and salvage it? maybe theres something thats easy to fix. If not oh well, I'll be in the market for a equal quality replacement

I have an older LiteOn that does the exact same thing, I never have found it fix. I just moved the drive to a pc that gets less use.
