Hello all, I wonder if you can help me out with a little niggle I've been having lately. I capture video from my PS2 through a VideoXpress capture device. I use VirtualDub and have installed the HuffYuv codec, which is amazing I might add, and then run the captures through Movie Maker to convert to WMV for internet distribution.

Up until now I have had no complaints with the quality at all, but recently, I have started capturing dark video, or video with little source light (I mean night missions from my PS2 games), and the resulting WMV files have been really poor in quality (distorted squares on screen instead of detail). Check these out to see what I mean:

Now, I'm not expecting miracles here, but it would be nice if I could get much better quality WMVs. I'm not really sure how to make them better though. My videos are captured at PAL 640x480 with HuffYuv codec and look absolutely fine at this stage. Then into Movie Maker where I use the setting 'High Quality Video (large)'. I've tried other settings but they don't really improve things.

I did actually get better results from Media Encoder, but for some reason it keeps giving me errors now. I've re-installed it many times but no luck. In fact, if I remember, this was the reason I use Movie Maker instead, because I've always had error hassles with Media Encoder.

What I would like to know is:

1. Is there a better setting in Movie Maker than 'High Quality Video (Large)'? At the moment I get about 10 mins for 50mb, but I would sacrifice some file space for more quality.

2. Is there another codec I could use that would get me similar file sizes to WMV but a sharper image? Or even a way of just getting sharper WMVs out of Movie Maker.

Thanks very much.
