    Hi,

I'm sure there isn't a way, but I want to know if it's possible to convert a VHS motion picture that I own (but it copywrighted) onto a DVD? I own a dual VHS/DVD machine that dubs one onto the other. I own a few old movies on VHS and want to make them DVDs for my own use. Is this something that can be done?

    Thanks in advance!

There is totally a way... that's what goes on here!

You machine dubs one to the other? So you mean the VHS can record the DVD? Or do you mean that the DVD can record the VHS? If the latter, then you are all set!

If the former, you need a machine that does the latter - check the DVD Recorders link on the left.

I use a capture card in my PC for this. Record to MPEG and burn to DVD.

You will find that some VHS videos have copy protection on them and will not copy in your machine.

If you find a VHS video like that then you can copy it but not without buying into some special hardware.

So have you discovered one or more VHS videos that will not copy or is your question just a general question and you haven't actually tried yet?

I tried with one movie, but came across the copywrite. Do I just try for each movie or suck up and buy the software to copy it and not worry about the copywrite?

You need hardware not software. A TBC is one device but considering you could buy 10-15 DVD's for the same amount it's not very practical for your purposes. there are cheaper things that are supposed to work. Do a search for SIMA.
