  1. The summary:
In a nut shell, I am not happy with the quality of video I am getting from capturing from my Sony Handycam CCD-TRV608 Hi-8 Analog Camcorder to my computer. I am looking for the hardware preset settings of my capture card, but can not find them anywhere.

    The Details:
I am following this guide: http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/capture/intro.htm on capturing video. Under “What Capture Card”, there is the following statement,

Capture cards are preset to capture a certain resolution, and then internally processes/resizes the video, as asked for by the software. The hardware is also hardwired to output a certain video format (AVI or MPEG) and then any changes to this are done completely in software. Your goal should be to identify the native card resolution, the output format, and then use that knowledge to your advantage.
So I’ve been looking for this info, but can not find it. I want to know if I should capture with the Huffyuv codec? Mpeg2? 704(720x480) or 352x480? I'm capturing from cameras s-video out through the cards s-video input. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated !!!

  2. I didn't think so.... This thread was too specific.

  3. How could you buy a capture card without even knowing what native resolution and capture format it uses?

  4. Don't ask me that. That's what I'm asking here. I bought the computer & cards before I was really into video at all. I can't find the format info on any documentaion though.

  5. Try capturing something and then examining the result using, for example, GSpot.
