    Hello there
I have owned a Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-832S (DL compatible) internal burner for over a year, and I have used it extensively without any problems, burning all kind of media, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+R DL, etc...
Lately I have installed the latest version of Nero, and since then I have a problem in burning dual layer discs, which I never did before. I use Verbatim DVD+R DL, and I have tried many times, both images and video files. I also tried with DVD Shrink and DVD Fab. No success. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.
This is the log I get from Nero:

Nero has never been good software for burning DL discs. If you have had success in the past it has been more because of luck that Nero being good software. Personally, I think Ahead lost the plot around version 5.5, and since then have dedicated more resources to getting the kitchen sink into Nero than actually getting Nero to work well.

DVD Shrink cannot burn by itself. It uses either Nero or DVD Decrypter to burn.

ImgBurn2 is free, and arguably the best burning program available for burning DVD Video to single or dual layer discs. I would recommend you download and install the latest version, and try burning with that.

First off, thanks for the reply. I did just as you said, and I am certainly glad I downloaded ImgBurn, which certainly looks to be a very useful little tool. Unfortunately, I still can't burn DL discs. ImgBurn gives me the following error:
    I/O error!
    ScsiStatus: 0x02
    Interpretation: Check condition
    CDB: BF 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00 0C 00 00
Interpretation: Send DVD Structure - DVD+R DL Boundary Information

    Interpretation: Session Fixation Error

Any thoughts? Is it possible that my drive has somehow lost DL compatibility? Thank you anyway

Have you updated firmware recently ?

Also, I found a couple of references to your error which suggest your drive may have slipped back to PIO mode. Worth checking. Right-click My Computer and select Manage. Click on Device Manager, then expand the IDE Controller branch. Double-click on the Primary Controller, then the Advanced tab. Make sure the Transfer Mode for all connected devices is set to DMA. Repeat for the Secondary Controller. If either are in PIO mode, delete that controller and reboot your system to reinstall.

That does sound like a problem with the burner. You might try cleaning the laser lens. If you get no help there, outside of a firmware upgrade, which is unlikely to help at all, being that your media worked before, you might have to consider replacing the unit.

You can also first try uninstalling the channel the burner is on, which should reset the OS driver. That may not help either, but it's easy enough to try and won't harm anything.
