  1. Sorry if this has been posted before but I could not find it using searches. I have the latest version of SVCD2DVD and am trying to use it to make a menu dvd using captured files from my camcorder. I used to do this fine using the previous 1.5 version but since I upgraded to 2.1, now every movie I burn has this flickering bar on the right side of the screen when I play it on my dvd player. It plays fine when I use it on my laptop or computer dvd player. It is only showing on my home units. I tried this on 2 different brand units and it is the same. I use a background file and mp3 file for my menu. The menu plays fine on the player, but it is only when I play the actual video that this happens. The flickering bar also has a bit of the menu image that I can see in the area. I hope this makes sense. Anyway, I've tried resizing my background image to 720x576 and also turned Pan and Scan on as well. I've gone through almost every single setting I can modify but nothing works to correct this. The mpg files I'm using are 640x480 resolution (This is the highest I can grab with the crummy software that came with my camcorder without the video being garbled) and is supposed to be mpeg2. Thanks for whatever advice you can offer.

it is because 640x480 is not a valid DVD resolution. See https://www.videohelp.com/dvd

The solution is to re-encode to a proper dvd resolution (720x480 for example) but a much better solution is to capture @ 720 to begin with (if you are caping to mpeg). If you could capture to avi with your current software then SVCD2DVD would convert this to DVD specs for you. Otherwise try another capture software that will output DVD ready mpegs....

  3. The strange thing is that this is the software I've always used to convert home video mpegs to dvd. It's only been since I upgraded that this started. The software I used doesn't seem to capture at anything above 640x480 anyway (stable anyway) and others I've used gives me different problems altogether. Is there any software you recommend that a beginner can use to convert what I have? I've tried Ulead's stuff and they give me nothing but problems. Anyway, I'm still curious as to why it has always worked in previous versions but not the newest version. Thanks.

  4. Ok, I've converted my video file to 720x480 as suggested and tried again. Now the black flickering bar appears on the left! I'm all confused. The dvd's I create work fine on my laptop and portable 7" player without any aspect ratio issues. What can be wrong? This happens on both of my Phillips DVD players. I tried going back to the older version of svcd2dvd but it still does the same thing. I even installed to a different computer and it is still doing this. How can it have worked before? I'm baffled. Please help.
