Is there a metod to recover data from a non-working cell phone without buying a new battery? My battery went dead and I don't really want to buy a new one, since I have to get a new phone anyway. I got some phone numbers that I'd like to save.

you can just transfer the sim card to a working phone .... all the data will be on it ,,,,,

if the battery is completely zonked then a charger won't be any good as chnaces are it still needs the battery to make the circuit. Mmaybe you could short out the battery connection in the phone as a last resort

as for the sim, sometimes the data is saved only the phone and not to the sim depending on how you save your numbers

you could also think about using another similar spec battery and jumping the connections with wires so you can save all the data to the sim

if you are desperate and cannot get it to work then call into some local phone shops and ask the guys if they have a test/old battery they could try. Some may charge you a few £'s or some may even do it free and others will try and sell you a battery

I have lost numbers years ago when I lost my phone but I managed to get a few back using my itemised bill

What is "the sim card" Do I have to take the phone apart to get to it? Only removable part is the battery...
I can turn it on, but it cuts off after 20 seconds and I'm not able to access menu in 20 sec.

I saw a battery on ebay for this phone very cheap, anywhere from $10-15 including s/h.

Have you tried to take it back to the Service provider and see if they can move the data from one phone to another?

sim card is a chip you can remove without tools - its under the battery or might be under the battery compartment shield

Yes, and they said that phone is too old and they can't do nothing.

I don't see the chip in this phone that would be removable without any tools,,, it must be inside.

that's what you get when you buy the Lego phone from the 70's!

what kind of phone it and how old is it?

If you really want the numbers and want to take the safe route I'd be looking at Ebay for the $10-15 you said. The quick and daft way (which I'd try as I'm like that) would be using the charger somehow to fire it up

I have a similar problem...My cell phone display went out.
I bought a new phone and would like to transfer contact numbers from the old one to the new one. I know that I probably can get the cell provider to do it but wonder if I can do it myself?
What software/hardware do I need? Can it be done if the display is out? Do I transfer to computer hard drive then to another phone? Is there a tutorial on this subject?

    thanks for your help.

what phone is it that is broken?

if you have a destruction manual for your phone you may be able to do it blind. If not can you get hold of a same model phone as then you can see what you have to press. If not do you know anyone who has a similar phone (a mobile phone shop) who could help you? Or you could ask on this forum for some help as it's pretty big

    http://www.howardforums.com/

if you can do it somehow then you'd need to transfer all your numbers to your sim card (this may be in the instruction manual) and then you simply put that sim in a new phone
