  1. One other question...

    I can simply go into device manager under Windows XP and look at my DVD drives "properties" and see what region information is listed.

    It also gives me the ability to choose a country and change the region setting up to "X amount" of times.

    (Both now are listed as region 1).

    So, what is all the talk about proprietary firmware to do this? Can XP do it for you?

    Frankly, I can't remember....perhaps I did reburn the drives at some point.

  2. I'm not thinking...the XP device manager will only allow the region to be set for windows, right?

    I would need to flash it with new firmware if I wanted to use the drive in a DVD player?

    4 times are left for you to change it before it stops, you've used 1 of 5 when changed from 'region not set' to 'region 1'. Changing firmware to override this limitation had been used until safe software methods appeared like DVDRegionFree or DVDIdlePro (some people like AnyDVD).
