I recently purchased a BD-D6500 in Australia, and cannot set the player to region free. I am guessing from reading online that it is because I am running a new firmware. Does anyone know where I can download the old firmware which allows me to change the DVD region?

That makes no sense. Did you recently upgrade the firmware on this machine?

I haven't upgraded it, but it's New so it has current firmware and it seems as though Samsung have now prevented region changes. From what I have read, players with version 1019 have successfully changed the region. So I want to downgrade the firmware so I can change the region.

Upgrading firmware AFTER you hack a machine region free usually destroys the hack. I doubt the older firmware has the hack either....that is the point I am trying to make. Australian DVD players are always supposed to have a "way out" of a locked player. The hack must be made available to you OR a trip to a service center should fix the problem.

It's our limited understanding as non Australian citizens (hech54 stated this above) that your law says that you MUST be able to unlock DVD players. We've had reports of Aussies who went to the manufacturer and asked for help and got the info for free to get their players unlocked. I think that pursuing this course of action would be the best one for you. Look online for some Aussie Samsung tech center and get in touch with them about this.

As I say all the time - if you want region free, do NOT buy Sony or Samsung. It's just that simple.

Just to clear this up, Australian law does not enforce manufacturers to allow Region changes on their DVD players, but the law allows modification of DVD players to enable them to play DVDs from different countries.

I did contact Samsung in regards to changing the Region, and they basically came back and said, that it is not possible and if I try by following instructions on the internet then I will void my warranty...

All I want is to know if there is a depository somewhere on the internet with old firmwares, or if someone has access to an older firmware.

I have a feeling you have been lied to.
