I am trying to extract "snippets" of video w/sound from a number of non-encrypted DVD's with DVD Shrink in reauthor mode and occasionally get an error message that indicates an "invalid DVD structure". These DVD's play fine in my computer using Power DVD. Any ideas?

Also, is there a better software to accomplish what I'm doing? I want to create a hight-quality DVD's from the "snippets".

    Thanks

Um, don't you really need a video editor to do this? I don't understand how you are planning to get "snippets" with DVD Shrink. As far as video editors go, I'd recommend either MPEGVCR or VideoReDo. Both are excellent.

Since you didn't tell us how these mysterious DVDs were made in the first place, it's impossible to tell what's wrong with them. The fact that Power DVD plays them means nothing. Power DVD can play all sorts of things, such as Windows Media Video files, that might be problematic for standalone DVD players.

  3. You need to clean the surface of those DVDs.

    Thanks for responding

I have been using DVD Shrink in reauthor mode. It allows for the graphical selection of start and end points and then writes the resulting DVD folder-type data to your hard drive. I just grab the VOB file and go from there. However, some of the DVD's that I've tried give me the above-mentioned error message and will not allow me to extract the short portion of video and audio.

The DVD's are kind of an odd mix. Most of them are copies of DVD's that I own that I have ripped using whatever software I had at that time. I've been doing this for a few years and I have used several methods, so there may be a little "mystery" involved.

I guess to clarify a bit, I should say that all the DVD's worked fine on my computer, playing as normal DVD's w/menu's etc, and the 2 or so I checked on my stand-alone DVD's worked fine also. They just will not work in reauthor mode in DVD Shrink.

    Thanks

  6. larynx, try running the vobs on each dvdr thru FixVTS, then have Shrink do it's magic again. I assume that Shrink is UNABLE to analyze the DVDrs, right??

That's correct, DVDShrink is unable to analyze.

Yes, it can also be used to take the whole or pieces of 1->many DVDs and author them as one DVD.
