    I want to convert a mkv file to avi with subtitle. But first I need to burn the subtitles.
    I downloaded the necessary software

    mkv codec
    virtualdubmod
    vobsub

    I read a guide

    After opening the mkv file

    I click video,filter, add, and textsub

    after opening a .srt (subtitle file), this picture shows.

    This picture shows also before I select a .srt file, seems like it didn't load the .srt file

    Sure it's a .srt subtitle you have? Open it in Notepad, and paste a few lines here.

    This is some of the contents of the .srt file (I just demux it with virtualdubmod and .srt is the only format available)

    17
    00:00:32,280 --> 00:00:35,990
    2,0,Negima Main Text,,0000,0000,0000,,Rastel Maskil Magister

    18
    00:00:39,670 --> 00:00:40,720
    3,0,Negima Main Text,,0000,0000,0000,,Asuna-san!

    19
    00:00:41,170 --> 00:00:43,220
    4,0,Negima Main Text,,0000,0000,0000,,Sorry, did I wake you?

    Doesn't really look like a .srt file - more like a mix if .ssa and .srt?!?

    Code:
    9
    00:04:13,600 --> 00:04:16,700
    Vanessa! Miyuki! Vänta på mig!

    10
    00:04:18,300 --> 00:04:23,400
    - Förlåt. Jag tappade min mobil.
    - Du är så klantig, Allison.
    ...is what a .srt looks like.

    Loads it here, just displays all the extra formatting text as part of the line.
