    Hello all,

I made an AVI file from my Led Zeppelin DVD. I wanted to take screenshots from my avi file so I used Windows Movie Maker to do it with. The images are saved to jpeg and comes out perfectly. Unfortunately, I wanted to do multiple images (per frame) so this was becoming a lengthy process capturing frame by frame manually. I simply wanted a program that will automatically do it for the entire length of the video file.
I came here and downloaded “Image Grab” https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=ImageGrab because it’s exactly what I was looking for.

Here’s the problem with Image Grab. It works beautifully, but all the images come out “slicy”, buggy lines that look like interference from a TV.

What can I do to change this? It’s pointless for me to use Image Grab if the images come out like that. Any other program out there saves quality images like WMM, but saves images automatically for every frame like Image Grab?

    Thanks!

  2. Ah, yes, Mr. Plant singing at the '79 Knebworth festival. Jimmy Page and Co should have got an Emmy for that DVD - the restoration and quality is tremendous (if that's the one you have).

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with your images. What you are seeing is the interlacing on the original video. The ImageGrab example is a very faithful reproduction. The WMM one shows the effects of deinterlacing.

But - can you confirm you used Movie Maker and not Media Player? Also, what format is the AVI file (e.g., is it DV)? The standard DV decoder shipped with Windows decodes to half resolution.

    Great taste, by the way

    Hey Johnny,

    It’s a DV-AVI file, uncompressed.

I used Windows Movie Maker, opened AVI file, and in the little window start clicking on “take screenshot”, one frame at a time. It’s come out great!

Taking too long, used Image Grab and it saves time. However, all the series of images have those line gaps. You call it interlacing. I don’t like it some are more pronounce and it looks really ugly.

  4. It's the Earl's Court footage that blows me away - it's as if it were a live broadcast TODAY.

Anyway - how many images do you have?

There are a couple of options.

    1. For a lot of images - Search this forum for deinterlacing - it's a never-ending concern and quest. Usually it involves using a selection of freeware tools.

    2. If you just have a handful of images, try an image editor. For example, Paintshop Pro has a deinterlace filter and, since the software is scriptable, you can just run it on a batch of images. Even the Microsoft Photo Editor will work (but not scriptable) - open the image, resize to 50% and then resize to 200%. This will, in effect, create images similar to the ones you are after.
