convertxtodvd makes switchable subs if you add the srt in the program, no need for ffdshow. have you tried click on the subtitle button on your remote control or in your dvd software program?

No subs displayed, or no subs available at all to choose ? ConvertXtoDVD doesn't set subs on by default.

ConvertXtoDVD wont encode the subs that ffdshow displays on screen. It takes the srt file. This file must be in the same folder as the avi, and have the same name as the avi, but with the srt extension. ConvertXtoDVD will pick up the subs automatically if this is done correctly. You can confirm that the subs have been loaded by expanding the properties of the video in ConvertXtoDVD after loading.

and be sure to play the dvd and not just the vob files, by select "Open DVD File from the Hard Disk Drive" in PowerDVD and then select subtitle in PowerDVD.

You see them in WMP because FFDShow is putting them in the stream. ConvertXtoDVD should ignore this and only create the switchable subs in the DVD.

  12. thank you .. guys .. my problem s solved... i have the subtitles on dvd.. but the size is only 2 gb... but the quality is so -so..in convert x to dvd my encoding quality speed was medium quality encoding speed (recommended written dere).. so if i put it to higher quality slow encoding will the quality drastically improve??? nd will the speed drastically decrease???

The speed won't drastically decrease - on my system the difference would be less than 10 minutes. Will the quality drastically increase ? That I can't say, other than to repeat the advice often given here : Garbage In, Garbage Out. If you source is Xvid/Divx avi then you will find that conversion to DVD leaves looking a lot worse than when you watched it on your TV. This is not the fault of ConvertXtoDVD, but the fault of the original encode, and the difference between the PC and you TV. The source has been compressed very heavily to make it fit into 700MB, and has been reduced in size. The lower gamma levels on your PC hide a lot of the compression artifacts in the file. When you encode this file for DVD you have to enlarge the resolution, which makes the artifacts larger, and the higher gamma on the TV makes them more visible. You can use VLC to proves this. Enable the Extended GUI under Settings, then start pushing the gamma levels up. You will quickly see the compression artifacts. ConvertXtoDVD, and any other one-click tools, do not have the adjuments and filters necessary to remove these artifacts. For that you need avisynth or virtualdub. ConvertXtoDVD can read and encode from avisynth scripts.

ConvertXtoDVD encodes audio to AC3 if it isn't already DVD compliant. For you to hear it on your PC you must have an AC3 decoder installed. You do, because it is there, just very low. Most of the AC3 decoders have their own settings for volume that override windows. You need to find these and make sure they are set correctly.
