I'm working on a 49th birthday project and need to have a voice-mail number that people can call anytime and leave "sorry I can't be there, happy birthday" type messages for use in the video.
So... I need one where I can record messages easily on to my PC. I don't need conversations, just the ability to pull a message as a sound file.
I know Yahoo has the ability to attach an outside number to their Messenger and roll to voice-mail (about $3/month) but can't see if it's recordable.
I don't know anything about Skype.
Anybody know for sure what works and what's involved in doing it?
Thanks.

Many modems double as answering machines. That'd get you the audio into your computer.

try http://www.k7.net/
K7 gives you a free voicemail account (washington based number, iirc). The messages are then emailed to you (as an mp3, again iirc). -
