I captured a 9Gb HDV video from my Sony HC3 to my PC using Vegas 7. The captured file has an m2t extension and I can play it fine in Nero player. I want to divide the captured video into 3 clips and I tried doing it using Adobe Premiere 2 since I know the procedure. Problem is that Premiere won't recognize the m2t file captured by Sony Vegas. So I imported the captured file into Vegas 7 and I'm lost as to how to create clips with Vegas as the interface looks quite different from Premiere. I'd appreciate assistance with this. Thanks.

in the manual you got with vegas 7 , after spending 700$ to buy it .. as well in the tutorials on the sony site - as well as as the excellent help files ... are complete instructions on how to use vegas ... you dont need to capture with vegas and try to switch to premiere ....
one - vegas comes with the excellent cineform codec to use with capturing mt2 files , and using that codec (though you could use the m2t files directly also - though slower) .. the cineform codec can also be used in premiere - if you buy the plug in ...
to split the clip - put your cursor where you want to split it and hit the "S" key
if all you want to do is split the mpeg file - dont use vegas or premiere as they will recompress the file"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
BJ, I browsed through the help files and manual, but I didn't find a direct reference on splitting videos, that's why I posted here.
I can also capture with Premiere Pro, but since Vegas has the HC3 listed in the control devices (Premiere doesn't), I chose Vegas to capture. Premiere will capture and produce mpeg files, yet when playing them I don't see any quality difference with the Vegas m2t files. But you say that Vegas comes with the Cineform codec which produces better captured files?
All I want is to split the m2t captured file, and you say not to use Vegas or Premiere as they will recompress the file. So what program can I use to split the captured file that will preserve the original compression? Thanks. -

Mozart, I successfully split the m2t source file into multiple files according to time stamp. Problem is that when I chose some of those files to join them with TSSplitter the final joined file showed video not in time sequence (order is random). Any idea to fix this? Thanks.
