im finding avidemux a very easy and friendly/logical tool for shortening and joining clips.

my only issue so far is that after joining clips (regardless of format) the audio seems to not come through
i tried various options and setting to no avail

Make sure you're downloading the absolute latest versions of the software. V2.4 March 26 is pretty new.

Odd - I switched to AVIDemux because of it's audio handling. I am still using 2.3, as 2.4 is a preview version.

Pretty much. A couple of questions for you:

    1. What did you test the output with ?

    2. What does g-spot say about the audio in the new file ?

    3. Have you checked your preferences in AVIDemux ? (Edit->Preferences->Audio (tab)->Audio Output. Change from Dummy to Win32)

    Well done, guns1inger

The newer svns have a version compiled with the QT GUI front end. Looks really nice (although not 100% functional yet).

Stupid me. I just installed 2.4 on my laptop, found that I had no audio, and went looking in the program for audio related settings.

Odd thing is, I don't remember having this issue with 2.3. They must have different default settings for preferences.

That app is in active development. I've been testing out the command line functions for Mpeg2 PS to TS conversion. Seems to work pretty well. Lots of promise in this application, but still needs some kinks worked out.

    1. i tested the output with the same players that the original files work well with (VLC and MPC)
however, after joining the files into one:
MPC doesnt play back the file at all
VLC plays it but no audio

    2. Gspot says nothing about audio. the audio section is blank
(when i ran the original clip through gspot, it sais mpeg layer2 mono

    3. yes (after reading your post) but unfortunately still no audio

I cannot replicate your problem, having joined a number files in both 2.3 and 2.4 over the past few days. These included VBR Mp3 audio, as well as AC3.

What does g-spot say about the audio in the source ?

After altering your preferences, do you get audio when you play back the original files in AVIDemux ?

g spot sais the audio in the source is a mpeg1 layer2 monophonic

but after joining two files (with the same specs) g spot gives no info about the audio.

yes after altering preferences, the playback is fine witht the original.
