Hi. I'm trying to make an animated gif using captures from a divx file. Can anyone point me in the right direction on what software i could use and a good method to do it?

Open your clip using VirtualDub http://www.virtualdub.org
Using the slider at the bottom, or by using Video -> Select range, select the range of frames you want in your GIF animation.
Click File -> save Image sequence. You can save the series of frames as BMP images.
You will need to use a Animation tool - search the internet for shareware GIF creation tools. You can load the created images into the GIF creation software and create your animated GIF. -
Load the AVI into Animation Shop 3, it comes with Paint Shop Pro 7. Select rage or load all frames !!!
