    need some suggestion to the proper way to deinterlace this movie.

    Clip

    please confirm that your suggestion works before suggesting it. I have tried a few without success. namely:

    fielddeinterlace(blend=false)

    restore24()

    leakkerneldeint(order=1,threshold=8)

    leakkernelbob(order=1)
    repal()

    I may have tried some others that I forget right now. please help!

    FYI - For those curious about the clip, it is a 25.1MB download.

    What is the ultimate goal of this exercise ? What format will the new progressive version be encoded to ?

    It is the recommended software around here for conversion to Xvid. I don't use it simply because I don't have a need to convert to Xvid.

    Nothing to lose by giving it a test run in a short clip. Use your demo clip to find out.

    Are you sure it is the deinterlacing that is causing this ?

    Jerky playback can also come from incorrectly changing framerates or formats, or having the wrong field order.

  10. In AVISynth

    LeakKernelBob(Order=1)
    Decimate(cycle=2)

    wasn't too bad. Unfortunately the source is in pretty poor condition (partially blended fields) so the result has some ghosting.

    There is a filter called RePAL that can remove a lot of that ghosting but it assumes the source is a partially blended PAL->NTSC conversion. So it won't work properly with your source.

    ok, I will give this a try. thanks

    edit:

    gave pretty much the same result as my previous best. not good enough to keep as a copy.
    why do they have to make things so hard? damnit.
