I've tried a few different methods dvd9 to dvd9 backup, but nothing seems to work. The simplest way I tried was DVD Decrypter ISO Read then Write, but sometimes I get errors, sometimes I dont, but the disc will freeze upon playback. I've also tried nero for the writing, with the verify option on, and this reports errors as well.

I've tried this on two DL burners, and tested the dvds on...6 dvd players (3 computers, and 3 stand-alones).

Has anyone else had problems making good back-ups, or is all my equipment just "special"? im assuming its not the media.

Anyone have any suggestions on alternate methods to use? I even tried using dvd shrink with no compression, didnt work.

What Media are you using? Alot of folks have had Good Success with Verbatim DL media.

  3. I agree with Bodyslide.

I would try using DVDFAb Decrypter (free) to get the files to your computer, then use Nero Burning Rom to burn your files.
I only trust Verbatim for Dual Layer burning.
Some dvd players will not play these, they either don't work at all or they freeze up when trying to play them.

    Hope this helps. 8)
    Just my 2 cents.

    3. ImgBurn2 ISO -> DVD9+R

    ManuBumb,

If you'll post a burn log, it contains all the details needed to figure out what the problem is. If it's a nero log, you should remove your serial number before posting it.

I see this is your first post here, so welcome to VideoHelp.

I believe I'm using verbatim....either that or memorex, but im pretty sure my single layer dvds are memorex and DLs are verbatim. unfortunately, the media, and the burners, are not with me. One burner is in Alabama with my parents, one is in VA with my sister, and all the media is in bama.

One interesting note Slickster is that i saw exactly what you described. One disc refused to play on my dvd player, but on my roommate's fairly new LG, it played without any problems at all. but my dvd player doesn't have problems with any other dvds (originals), so I wasn't sure what was going on.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to the logs until xmas, so I guess I posted prematurely.

Thanks for the welcome, VegasBud. I've been reading for a long time, but stuck to the main part of the site. I'll remember to check out the logs when I get back. fmi, are the logs in an obvious place (ie, nero/logs/), or accessible from the program itself? or somewhere random and obscure?

That also happens to me. Some play in my standalone DVD player ok, some don't. Some that don't play in mine play fine in my friend's player (only tried a couple discs). I found that burning at 2.4x on my Plextor gets best results on my nearly 3 year old Sony DVP-NC685V. Maybe try out different speeds when you burn.

    Good luck

I would not use Nero to burn DL material. There are two methods that seem to produce consistent results (assuming you have good media), they are the PGCEdit method, and ImgBurn2.

Slickster - I suspect that most of your playback issues can be traced to using Nero to burn.

  9. guns1inger, I never thought that Nero would be the cause of the problem because Dual Layer DVDs play on 2 of the 3 dvd players I have.
But......I think I might try using IMGBURN2 sometime and see what happens.

    Thanks for the info.
    Just my 2 cents.

I've only used DVDDecrypter or Imgburn on Verbatim's and still got the results I posted above. I'm guessing my player's the problem most of the time.

Playback compatability for DL, even good quality DL, is still, in many cases, back where general SL writable playback was at the beginning. It will take another generation or two of players to get the kinks out. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) the advent of HD media (HD DVD/BluRay) may make all this moot.
