I have Toshiba SD-3990 DVD player and it works great but Im having a little problem. One of the great features of this player is it plays Divx and Xvid videos, but sometimes when I burn a couple of AVIs some work and some dont. Is there any way that I can make sure they all work before the burn....or even if i know there not going to work how do I change that. Also Im trying to keep the same quality...thats a big thing for me...

Also I have notice whenever I do a multi session burn...it doesnt show up...sometimes ill burn lets say 3 AVIs...then find another movie...so ill add it to the disc to same money on DVDRs....but it doesnt show up on my DVD players menu like the original ones I burned...weird...

You can't use multi-session. I don't know of any players that support it. Either use RWs and re-write the whole thing as you add to it, or wait until you have enough to fill a disc (or live with a half empty disc - they're not that expenisve).

The two things that seem to cause issues with most players are qpel and GMC settings. AVIRecomp can re-encode your videos to Xvid suitable for playback in pretty much all players. Mpeg4modifier or g-spot can tell you if your videos have used either of these features during encoding.

What program are you using to encode your Divx or Xvid videos? It sounds like it isn't making them compliant with your player. avi.NET, AutoGK and even VirtualDub with the proper settings should make a compliant video. If you are getting them from another source, AVI ReComp will make them compliant also.

The second problem sounds like you shouldn't do multisession burns if they cause problems.. Just save them up on the hard drive until you get enough to fill a DVD.

EDIT: guns1inger typed faster and with some better advice.
