Do you own multiple versions of the same movie in the same format?

So do you own more than one copy of a movie in the same format?

Of course I do. I now own the Original Star Wars release on dvd that just came out last month. I also own the se versions on dvd.

BUT that is the only instance that I have the same movie on dvd twice. Now for instance I have the LORD OF THE RINGS extended edition on dvd but I have no desire to buy the theatrical versions just to complete my collection. One set is enough for me there.

How about you? Do you own the regular version and a directors cut of the same movie in the same format? Or do you solely buy one copy per format?

Not of the same format, no. Unless you count the DVD backups of the VHS tapes that I have also purchased the DVD release. If you count those, then yes but only the Star Trek movies.

funny that you mention star wars. is the new release actually the original without new special effects, an honest to goodness original ? if so i would buy it in an instance. a couple of years ago i transferred my vhs versions to dvd so i could preserve them on disc. i thoroughly enjoy the original versions although i would like to find them in wide screen if they exist.

I own two copies of Lost in Translation. I had thought that I had lost it. Two months later, I found the original.

As far as two versions, I own Return of the King theatrical and the extended versions.

EDIT: Forgot about Saving Private Ryan. Had the original. That got stolen. So I got the 50th anniversary DVD.

Yes it is the absolute original no alterations. You can get the widescreen and buy them individually too if you want. I believe Best Buy offers them in a three pack. They come in a two disc set - the special edition disc and the original unedited version.

I have no interest in bending over and taking it up the arse by the film industry, all they do is tamper (ruining films, ie starwars 2004 editions) by adding,editing,censoring and outright messing just to get mugs to give them more cash.

I won a couple of custom cover contests and got DC versions of DVDs that I already own'ed. So I've got two versions of Gladiator and Sin City on my shelf. Other than that, the only movie I've rebought on DVD was Goodfellas and I just threw the old one out since it was such a horrible transfer.

I have stopped buying Star Trek related DVDs. They are about to re-master both the TV shows and the Movies into HD format directly from the original master film. This eventually will look great on HD TV.

I'm not sure I like the enhanced special effects on the original show that they are now releasing for TV broadcasting. The original special effects were sometimes a bit campy, but that was part of the Start Trek experience.

The original DAWN OF THE DEAD is my favorite movie.

I have the following which are in chronological order of my purchasing:

2.) USA HBO/Thorn EMI VHS (Theatrical Cut)
3.) USA HBO LaserDisc (Theatrical Cut)
4.) USA Republic Pictures LaserDisc (Theatrical Cut)
5.) Japanese LaserDisc release (Included the Director's Cut and the Argento European Cut)
6.) USA Anchor Bay Full Screen Director's Cut VHS
7.) USA Elite Entertainment WS Director's Cut LaserDisc (CAV version)
8.) USA Anchor Bay WS Director's Cut DVD
9.) USA Anchor Bay WS Theatrical Cut DVD
10.) USA Anchor Bay WS Theatrical Cut DVD (Remaster ... different than #9)
11.) USA Anchor Bay Ultimate Edition (Director's Cut, Theatrical Cut and the Argento Euro Cut)

The only release that is the "same" as in "identical" is that #10 was a single release but the exact same DVD (same quality with same menu and everything) is in the #11 Ultimate Edition.

Oh and I also have 2 copies (one still sealed) of the Republic LaserDisc release. It was a major improvement over the HBO/Thorn EMI videotape and LD versions that I had to have a back-up just in case LOL

Little did I know at the time that I would be buying the movie many times over after that
