Vegas Movie Studio Versions? Platinum vs. V. 8

Hi, I haven't been here in a while but I used to be a "regular" in the DV (Camcorder) to DVD discussions. No expert though. Anyways, I've been using Magic Movie Edit Pro 2004 for a while to do my DV and photo capture/editing. I also have TPMGenc express and TMPGend DVD Author 1.6 . Normally, I used Movie Edit Pro to make the movie, output to DV then use TMPGenc to encode, DVD Author to author.

Basically I take DV camcorder videos, photos, then make a DVD with some effects, add music tracks, etc. Typical "home DVD" type stuff i guess. I've used pinnacle (crashed all the time, as i read it does for others) then i went with movie Edit Pro. I really have some problems with some of Movie Edit functions - though many things it does very well.

I wanted to try and maybe switch to Vegas movie Studio for my next project, read reviews which sound good, now I'm wondering which version to get. On eBay they have versions 6, 7, 8 and "Platinum" and some come with DVD Architect, I think. Is there a "must have" version I should buy or can I save some $$$ and get 6 or 7? What does Platinum get me extra?

i wouldn't touch discount software on ebay with a 200ft pole. too much of a chance it's counterfeit.
