  1. Used Virtualdub to split an avi into 3 to burn to CDs to play in the dreaded Philips DVP642.

The first and third segments play fine. The second tries to load, then I get "Reading Index", then just back to the menu. AVICODEC tells me:

    Video : 484 MB, 1260 Kbps, 30.0 fps, 720*480 (4:3), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, Supported

    Audio : 86 MB, 224 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

    Any suggestions?

Have you tried burning another copy of the 2nd disc?

Since 2 of the 3 files play fine and they are all encoded the same, I wouldn't expect there to be an issue with the video/audio specs. My guess would be a bad burn/disc or possibly an issue with whatever software was used to split the file into segments.

Also could be an incomplete file -- the index is at the end of the file. DivFix can rebuild the index.

Also, with the cost of DVD burners and discs as low as they are, you could switch to DVD and save yourself a LOT of time and trouble.
