Used Virtualdub to split an avi into 3 to burn to CDs to play in the dreaded Philips DVP642.
The first and third segments play fine. The second tries to load, then I get "Reading Index", then just back to the menu. AVICODEC tells me:
Video : 484 MB, 1260 Kbps, 30.0 fps, 720*480 (4:3), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, Supported
Audio : 86 MB, 224 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported
Any suggestions?

Have you tried burning another copy of the 2nd disc?
Since 2 of the 3 files play fine and they are all encoded the same, I wouldn't expect there to be an issue with the video/audio specs. My guess would be a bad burn/disc or possibly an issue with whatever software was used to split the file into segments.Google is your Friend -

Also could be an incomplete file -- the index is at the end of the file. DivFix can rebuild the index. -
Also, with the cost of DVD burners and discs as low as they are, you could switch to DVD and save yourself a LOT of time and trouble.
