  1. I have a cable that is hdmi on one end and dvi digital on the other end. I also have an adapter that connectes to the dvi end to convert it to an hdmi plug. If I use this cable with the adapter I can use the hdmi plug on the tv and on the dvd player. My question is will it still carry the audio signal as well as the video or do I need a true hdmi cable to do that?

Probably not because the DVI-D connector has no provision for audio. HDMI also has pins for control.

And technically you cannot convert from DVI to HDMI as both DVI and HDMI are exactly the same in terms of video. The video siginal is the same, both being digital (a bunch of 0's and 1's), so no conversion process takes place.

So its just DVI to HDMI cable, not a converter cable.
