Maybe this has been done elsewhere. I'd like to animate the evolutionary tree, which is represented by downward branching lines like: (Well, the spaces were removed from my character figured, so it is collapsed. I'm leaving the debris behind, but perhaps you get the idea. (How does on do character graphics here?)

    |
    ----------------------
    | | | |
    x | | |
    | x ----------
    ------ | |
    | | x |
    x | |

Where x denotes end of the line for a species. Time flows downwards. Splits to new branches indicate new species.

Perhaps there's a general area of a site that deals with different animated lines, or even one that deals with scientific effects?

For animation? For embedding character drawings or general graphics to insert into msgs here? How do I get drawings out of PPt?

  4. Again, I've made a mistake here - it isn't a cross-post at all. Sorry, solarblast.

  5. At powerpoint, under slide show, pick your animation scheme, and construct your show.

To convert that to video, you can try either of these :

    1. Play the power point and use Camstudio to record it as video.

    2. Do a web search of "power point animation to avi", and try out those applications from the search result.

See my response to your other post on doing this type of thing in Vegas

Although the example I have posted shows horizontal movement, it can just as easy be used to do vertical movement as well. PowerPoint is the worst tool in the Microsoft Office Suite, and is a poor sustitute for real video tools.

Thanks. I did a quick look. I see it involves Wax. Wax2 and ZS4. Since I'm just getting my feet wet with Vegas, is there one of these that's simpler than the others? Are these freebies or require $$?

That was done completely in photoshop (the original graphic) and Vegas (all the animation). No need for WAX or ZS4 if you don't want to use them. Both tools are free if you are interested. But the processes I described in the other post are for Vegas only - nothing else is needed.
