Hi guys and gals, hope this is in the right section.
Here's the situation. I'm taking a recorded programme from sky+ into my PC via a Pinnacle Dazzle USB capture device. No problems there. I'm then converting the resulting VOB file into an AVI so I can edit it in Premier (remove ads and top and tail etc), no problems there either. The end result will be a DVD for my son created in Encore 1.5.
At each stage the playback on the PC is absolutely fine until I render the final AVI. Now I've done this twice already with similar length clips with no problem, but this last one for some unknown reason is really 'jittery' when played back.
I'm exporting as Microsoft DV AVI (default settings) as I have done for the others. I've re-booted the PC, cleared temp folders and freed up more ram but nothing seems to make any difference. Has anyone else experienced this?
Many thanks.
Jon

A couple of questions: When you convert the VOB to AVI, what codec and program are you using for the conversion? When you export from Premier, could you post a Gspot 2.52 screen shot of that file? There may be something obvious from that related to the problem and it would show quite a bit of info about the file. Info on posting screen shots: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=271697 You can blank out the title if you like.
And you might look into using a MPEG editor as it should eliminate some encoding and the time it takes. This would depend on your source formats, though. VOBs can be converted fairly easily to MPEGs with VOB2MPEG. I use MPEG Video Wizard, but Video ReDo is also popular for editing. It appears you are going from VOB to AVI, editing, then to AVI again, then to MPEG and finally authoring. That's a lot of work and time if you are just doing simple cutting.
And welcome to our forums. -

What kind of audio does your VOB file contain??

I'll assume that you're working with PAL settings..
If you've got money to spend, and Premiere is your preffered editor, then i'd seriously suggest getting a DV converter box, instead of an MPEG capture device..
BTW, what resolution is Pinnacle capturing with??
