  1. First of all: I use a Macbook / OSX 10.4.7.
    Is there any way to have QT or VLC (or whatever media player) convert the aac5.1 sound (contained in a video file) to ac3 (on the fly while watching) and then route the ac3 stream through spdif out, so i can enjoy the Dolby Digital (AC3) sound on my stereo?

  2. Probably not. Simply, there are not many Mac applications that are able to handle AC3. You can convert AC3 into AAC but not the other way around. SoundConverter may do the job. But I'm not 100%.
