Can't open file in VDubmod

Hi,

I wanted to to open a video i downloaded in VirtualDubMod to cut it but i cannot seem to open it. It is an avi file. When I open it, there is no playable video stream. I can still save and demux the audio stream. The bottom said something about an 'error-2'.

I right clicked the video to view properties, the codec was a DVcodec. I opened the file with gspot and it said the codec name was something like H264.

I tried downloading a h264 codec and pioneer dv codec but i still cannot view the video stream to edit it.

Anyone can help me out? Thanks.

Can you play it back in VLC or media player classic ?
Have you installed a h264 codec ?
Have you checked the file with avicodec or similar to see what codecs you actually need ?
Are you sure it is completely downloaded, and downloaded successfully ?

It might be a Apple Quicktime file. AVI is just the name of the container. But if it was encoded improperly, it could be most anything inside. You might post a screen shot from Gspot 2.52, and someone may recognize the format. Blank out the title, if you like.

i haven't tried playing it with vlc or wmpclassic...i can play it in regular WMP though.

i have to go home first to get the screenshot. Thanks for the heads up.

You would need to install ffdshow for decoding. What is it with people putting AVC in avi's though?

i've already had ffdshow prior to this issue...

You also need to have AVC decoding enabled.
