Is Nero Recode included in Nero 6?

According to Nero's site Recode 2 is included in Nero 6, but I don't see it in my latest 6.6.1.4 version update. Mine was initially an OEM version and wonder if that could be the reason for no Recode. Is Recode not in some versions, or could it be within another part of Nero programs I've not yet found?

You need the NeroVision Express Package. It is included in that package. You can download it from Nero's website.

Nero Recode is part of the full retail version of Nero. It is NOT part of the OEM version of Nero.

I have an OEM version from a burner I bought and it has Recode with it and I have updated it as well.

My Nero version has Nero Vision Express SE, but I see no Recode. Only seen in Nero Vision Express SE is "Make CD, Make Slide Show, Capture Video to Hard Drive and Open Saved project of disk image."

When I click on Nero then Nero Digital, recode is there. Maybe I got it when I updated. I just clicke on everything one at a time, it shows my key then updates. I just know the only version that I have is a v6 OEM.

When I used to install the nerovision express package, it was included. The version that you get with your burner is not the full retail package. The full package is around $100.

UPDATE: Ahead Software pulled back the Nero Vision Express package, due to some last minute changes that caused bugs when using the Nero Digital. They pulled the release back for a while, fixed it and then re-published, but the version was not changed. Everyone is advised to download the Vision Express package again.

The Nero Recode v2 has been released, as a part of the Nero Vision Express package v2.1.0.3. But suprisingly Ahead also has released a Burning ROM version 6.3.

When I did the update to Nero6.6, I got about 15 different programs in the Ahead folder, including Recode but if I try to open some of them, including Recode, I get a message telling me that I haven't purchaced a licence to use these programs. IOW, you have to pay for the upgrade to get these features to work.

Not sure what the upgrade price is but as mentioned above, the retail price is around $100.

DarrellS findally gave me a good explanation. Nero Recode isn't seen anywhere in the StartSmart options, but I finally found it is in the Nero folder. Mine also says "The license you are currently using does not allow you to start this application" which means I'd need to pay to upgrade as DarrellS also states. Thanks to all for helping find the answer

Are there any advantages to Nero Recode over free programs like DVDShrink, DVDRebuilder, etc.? BTW some searches found there are 3 versions of Nero OEM Suite with Nero OEM Suite 3 including Recode but not the 1 and 2 versions of Nero Recode.

The only reason I could think of using Nero Recode/Nero Digital is for h.264 (AVC) encoding. There are other programs available though, so purchasing Nero Recode isn't a must. If h.264 interests you, I would suggest waitng to see how CoreAVC's encoder performs, before making a purchase.

I have little knowledge about encoding, but it appears both Nero Recode and CoreAVC encode different video formats to MPEG4. Is this correct, and are there advantages to MPEG4 over other video formats such as those from DVDShrink et al? In any event it sounds like CoreAVC encoding may be the wave of the future if it works well. Are you aware of any CoreAVC reviews or any testing that may be forth coming?

Has the CoreAVC encoder been released? I have been a bit out of the loop on that...

AVC, also known as h.264 is the type of encoding that will be used on HDDVD (last I heard). It is highly cpu intensive in both encoding and decoding. It allows for excellent image quality at low bit rates (smaller file sizes).

Standard DVDs use Mpeg2 which is less cpu intensive, but requires more bit rate for equivilent image quality.

NOTE: The above is my understanding, any experts out there, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

What you use depends on what you want to do with your video. If you want to watch it on DVD players/TVs, Mpeg2 is the way to go. If you want to watch it on a computer, and the machines being used are fast (+1GHz min with CoreAVC Standerd Edition... and that might be pushing it) AVC might be a good choice. Keep in mind AVC encoding is very cpu intensive, and depending on the system it may take quite a while to encode.
