Could someone kindly give a brief explanation of the differences between the "Nero Digital Standard" and the "Nero Digital AVC" profiles in Nero Recode 3x?
I'm running Nero 3.1.2.0. I'm not sure whether that's the very latest version. I installed it as part of the Nero 8 suite. I see that Nero 9 is out, but I can't determine whether Nero Recode has been updated. The only differences I can find are:
1. Files produced using "Nero Digital AVC" profile are 10-15% smaller;
2. Files produced using "Nero Digital AVC" profile take 8x longer to produce.*

It's been a while since I played with Nero Recode. But I believe standard is MPEG 4 part 2 (ASP/Divx/Xvid) and AVC is MPEG 4 part 10 (h.264). AVC gives better picture quality when the bitrate is low (file is small). I think audio is MP3 vs AAC. Again with AAC delivering better quality at low bitrates.
