    I just found out the other day that the latest release of virtualdubmpeg2 will open a wmv file. From their you can convert it to any avi codec you wish.

    You can try ffmpeg and mencoder, I think. (Command-line programs, but if you want a GUI, you can try SUPER.) Also, VLC may be able to transcode the video, if it will load and play in VLC.

    Note, however, that if the WMV video contains DRM (in other words, if you have to have a license to play it, or can only play it a limited number of times), none of these options (including VirtualDubMPEG2, as yoda313 suggested) will work.
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
