    What do I do to convert a wmv file to avi, while achieving excellent quality. I am not sure which program to use. What do you guys recommend?

    What format of AVI? There are probably a hundred of them. AVI is just a container name. If you want to descirbe a format, state the codec used.

    But try SUPER first. Not the best, but easy to use. Even WMV has quite a few formats. You may have problems with some of the newer formats or DRM if you are trying to convert to a AVI type format.

    A few others: alltoavi, or depending on the WMV format, Virtualdub 1.3C or even Window Movie Maker and output in DV format.

    Some of the later VirtualDubMod (or is it mpeg2 - I always forget!) can load wmv, and easily then convert to AVI, like DV or DivX or XviD to name a few AVI codec.
