    A few weeks ago I got an used Sony XV-5000W Video color corrector. Even though it only supports Composite, It found it very handy during the process of restoring the color of some old VHS, VCD and 8mm recordings.

    It has a joystick for color adjustment and additional controls for HUE and color saturation adjustment. The color adjustment control is very usefull when recording true black and white material. It also has a proprietary camera input. If anyone know what is the configuration of this port please reply to this message.

    I never saw one of these before, but I got it for jut $10 US I decided to go for it.

    It actually was a good acquisition for the price. And now my DVD recordings or DV captures from VHS look a bit better.

    The Color corrector is Goodie but oldie. It does a great Job on Vhs especially. The port was used with adapter but is useless, now because all cameras have some kind of input and output.

    I finally found a service manual for the XV-5000W. There is this guy at e-bay that sell manuals and he had the service manual for this machine.

    I found that the enhancer button generates ghosts and I not using this feature anymore.

    The Camera port seems to be similar to s-video, but I do not think I will find an adapter anyway.

    So far I’m happy with old color corrector. It works, but only for composite inputs.

    Glad that you found one, How much did it cost you. I might get one off Ebay too. Last I check no one had any. Did you have any problem with setup. I had to setup using Bars from Vegas.

    For the XV-5000W I paid $2 plus $10 (S&H).

    The service manual was at $1 plus $3 (S&H).

    I’m using the setup for my captures:

    VHS => XV-5000W => Panasonic DMR-ES10 => ADS Pyro A/V link

    This way I end with a DV movie of the video in the tape. So far it has been very nice for small corrections of saturation and color.
