  1. Hello all, I've never posted to Videohelp before but I've relied on this website and the people of these forums for years now.

I am a professional videographer and video production house. I transfer 8mm and 16mm film to vhs and dvd.

I have always relied on Sima SCC color correctors to do my color enhancements.

I've recently had a power blowout that amazingly blew out all 4 of my machines, even though they were in surge protectors. I need new color correctors but the Simas have now been discontinued because they break copyrights.

I do not care about breaking copyrights. I just need a decent color corrector machine so I can continue with my work. I can't do my transfers without color enhancements when I tell my customers that I do.

Does anyone know of any color corrector machines that will do what I need to do? There has to be something out there. I don't care if it's a cheap or bootleg device, as long as it works. I can't afford these 3000 dollar color correctors. I need something around the $100 range. I prefer not to buy used machines if possible.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You can still buy the SCC's but i think they come unbranded now. (without the Sima name)

  3. Do you know where I could find them?

I've tried searching under "color corrector" "color editer" "color enhancer" and several other terms but the problem is they're all too broad (and so many of the results are make-up) and I'm not finding what I need which has proven to be frustrating.

Thank you again for your help!

I'm not sure, i havent noticed anything for ages just knew that they were still being sold around without the name. I did a quick search and one popped up on amazon:
    http://www.amazon.com/Sima-Color-Corrector-Equivalent-Manufacturer/dp/B0026HF4RE/ref=s...7469197&sr=1-2

May be worth contacting the seller to see if they can get more if your looking to replace all 4. They're out there just got to find out where to get them from.

Another option is to look into getting them repaired. Have you found out what damage was actually done to them as it may be worth looking into fixing them. This is something i'd seriously consider with units like this.

Theres always Ebay where you can pick them up, but like you said your not looking for used models so thats not really the first place to look for you, just an option to keep at the back of your mind.

  5. I did see the one on Amazon and 4 on e-bay. The one on Amazon is used but I might end up purchasing it anyway.

Of the 4 on e-bay, 2 of them are used, being sold as-is with no return policy. I don't trust that. One is being sold for 200 dollars and the last one is up in 4 days. I will check in 4 days.

The cost of repairing them will probably cost more than if I bought new ones. Besides, I havn't a clue where to begin looking for a repair place for this kind of equipment. I'll look around for electronics stores here in New York anyway; maybe I'll get lucky.

I can't believe that there don't seem to be ANY color correctors being sold anymore. You can't tell me that no one else uses them?

The one i linked to on amazon states that its New. $149.99

People do use them of course and yes they are out there, but as you've seen most of them are a lot more expensive than the SCC's.

I'd look into repairs, The cost could well work out a lot less than purchasing 4 new ones. ($600 ?) Because its a power surge that caused the issue it may be something a general electrical shop coud help with, just something burnt out that needs replacing. They wouldnt even have to nescersarily understand how it works to be able to fix whats broken if that makes sense ? Just a few checks on circuitry and components and hopefully its something simple they can swap out for you.

  8. I didn't check your link because i thought it was the one I've seen. I didn't realized you gave me a link to the SCC2.

You want to hear something very strange? It is now the next day and the machines all work again.

I'm not sure why but it seems like it may have something to do with the electricity current not being fully back (The Simas and my projectors all use a lot of power, and I have a lot of other equipment as well)

I will still be looking out for good alternatives because I can't afford to go without my color correctors.

Thank you so much for all your help!

Honestly, the Sima color correctors are crap anyway.

You'd be better off with other proc amps.
    SignVideo, for example: http://www.signvideo.com/single_dual_proc-amp_video-processor.htm

Proc amps / color correctors have been talked about quite a bit at
