I have a LG DVB418 Player that lately has had a skipping issue when playing DVD -R media. I was wondering if anyone else has this player and has or is experiencing the same issue. I have tried changing media. went from Memorex to TDK and have the same issue.

I have also tried applying a firmware update to the player but that does not help either.

I am currently looking to replace this player with a new one but if this one can be fixed i will keep it for my secondary tv. The unit is less than 2 years old so im hoping i can fix it.

    thanks for any help

My first reply would still be media.

However, it could also be that the player is just aging. Over time the laser looses power and the first symptoms are errors playing recordable media. If the player is still working for store bought (pressed) media, then it is still a viable backup/spare.

Depend's ... if len's is cheap , it wil be turning a milky colour ... replace len's is only fix for that .

Some unit's have an adjustment for len's power calibration ... a multimetre will be required , knowing how much to adjust the specific unit though will be best guess ... mark original position , and adjust in small increment's in one dirrection , testing as you go .

If worse ... you need to adjust in other dirrection ... my xms888 has this .

If this is to technical ... buy another unit , and retire this one .

I have tried different media, same thing, and now I tried a new DVD Player, Phillips brand and same thing. I am in the process of replacing my DVD burner drive (Sony DRU710A) with a new LG recorder drive. Hopefully this will fix the issue.

  5. Now that you`re gonna buy a new burner I recommend a Lite-On unit.
