Is there any reason I shouldn't use the built-in TMPGE DVD Writing Tool to burn my DVD's after I author them in TMPGE DVD Author?

I used it and I found it was causing problems , causing slight pauses in the video BUT that might well be my machine . But for the sake of a few pence of the cost of a blank or use a dvdrw , try it .

It never gives me the option to change the burn speed so I never use it.

  5. If you can upgrade to 1.6, it will let you change burn speed. If you bought the box version, the upgrade is free, I think they charge extra with the downloaded version.

The TDA burning engine has quirks. To be frank, it sucks.
I would rather burn in Nero.

I use RecordNow for my burning.

In fact, I try to not use TDA for anything whatsoever.
I prefer either SVCD2DVD or Ulead DVD Workshop 2.

I have TDA write to an ISO file after it has completed, then burn with DVD Decrypter. It won't, however, let me do this when I create a dual layer project. I used TDA to burn this project, but after reading opinions here, I won't do it again. I would prefer to use decrypter over Nero, but how would I get TDA to create an image larger than 4.7 GB?

  10. The burning engine in the latest version works quite well. I've never had a problem with playback. The burning engine is from Sonic Solutions (creator of RecordNow). If you do have a problem, I bet it has to do with the media used or just the odd quirk in your particular setup.

My media, drives and setup are fine. It's the software. It's actually a very common issue. The initial version of their burning engine was highly unstable, and it's not really changed much as time has gone by.

  12. I've burned dozens of discs with 1.6 and never had the slightest glitch with any of the discs.

I've been using 2.0 for a couple of weeks now without any problems and I burn with it two.

I've even done two dual layer discs with TDA, both authoring and burning with no problems (pioneer 111d drive with memorex +R DL discs).

  14. I haven't had any issues with it. Although I'm still uncertain whether it uses a buffer. If I do use it, I make sure not to do anything else while it's burning. Lately, I've been using Nero and Imgburn. Does TDA adjust the layer-break properly?

    No.
Use PgcEdit, follow the guide. It's easy.

The TDA burning errors are very random. Use it long enough, make enough discs, you'll eventually see it. TDA has a ton of errors like that. It's just a sloppy program. Cheap stuff.

I use TDA's writing tool to burn folders created with other firm's software so far with no problems. A feature I particularly like is that TDA will sometimes limit the maximum burn speed to 12x from say 16x if it thinks the medium is not up to it. Due to that I've been able to play discs on a friend's stand-alone which is notoriously fussy.

  17. Thanks lordsmurf. Looks like one more thing to add to my workflow. I'll create my menus and author with TDA. I'll open that up into pgcedit to ensure the 32k gap between IFO and BUP files, and create the layer break. Burn with imgburn. Do you know how to check if the 32k gap was created? I reopen the ISO in pgcedit, and don't see anything different.

I use my computer when burning with TDA and never had a problem. As for the layer-break I do just like lordsmurf suggested and burn with RecordNow. I have never tried doing any dual layer with TDA so I can't comment on it.

So should I use PgcEdit or Record Now to adjust the layer break. And what exactly does "adjust the layer break" mean? I know there's always a 2-3 second pause when switching layers on my dual layer discs. Is that the layer break? And how do I adjust it?
